The headmistress of the Akropong School of the Blind in the Eastern Region has appealed to the government to help improve security in the school to ward off internet fraudsters, it has been reported.

The headmistress, Mrs Marhella Narh, is said to have told Accra-based Adom FM that internet fraudsters visit the school to take advantage of the visual impairment of the students by giving them gifts as part of a ritual that they hope will make them rich.

The cyber fraudsters, known in local parlance as ‘Sakawa boys’, give freebies, such as toffees wrapped in red calico, to some students as part of the rituals, she claimed.

Mrs Narh reportedly blamed the situation on the lack of security check points at the school, adding that it posed a danger to the students.

She is said to have called on the government to intervene before something bad happens to them.
