The estranged father of Lamar Odom says he believes he son was drugged after he was found unconscious at a brothel in Nevada after taking up to 10 herbal Viagra pills.

Joe Odom says he refuses to believe that his son had been leading a party lifestyle and revealed he only found out he had been taken to hospital after reading news reports.

The NBA star has had a rocky relationship with his father, who suffered from drug addictions, and previously claimed he has been absent from much of his life.

And now he is calling on his son's ex-wife Khloe Kardashian to get in touch to let him know about his son's condition.

He told Hollywood Life: 'Somebody drugged my son. There's no way he's down there partying crazy like that. No way. I knew something was wrong because I've been calling him all day and he hasn't been answering. I'm depressed right now - this is messed up!'

'I need all his fans to send him well wishes. If Khloe knows anything about this, please, tell her to call me. We all love Lamar and want him to pull through this.'

The NBA star was discovered at the Dennis Hof's Love Ranch South in Pahrump in Nevada and was rushed to hospital after liquid was found coming from his mouth and nose.

He was taken by ambulance to the Desert View Hospital hospital, where doctors intubated the basketball player but he did not regain consciousness.

The Nye County Sheriff's Department said he was then taken by another ambulance Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas because he was too tall at 6'10" to be airlifted.

He is reported to be in a coma with heart failure and also suffering problems with his liver and kidneys.

Brothel owner Dennis Hof told DailyMail.com that an employee saw liquid pouring from his mouth and nose.

He said there were no signs that Odom had been doing drugs other than the herbal Viagra substitute.

His ex-wife Khloe Kardashian is at his side and it is thought she is with her sister Kim Kardashian West and her mother Kris Jenner.

Odom's mother died of colon cancer when he was just 12-years-old and he was raised in the Queen's area of New York by his grandmother.

When his marriage to Khloe Kardashian broke down, Joe Odom said he said how he believed the Kardashian family had 'poisoned' his son and drove him to addiction.

He also gave an interview where he criticised Kris Jenner calling her an 'evil b****'.

However, Odom later lashed out at his father on Twitter saying: ''How can a man who has NOT once called me to check on my well being have the nerve to talk so recklessly about his own 'son'. He is my downfall!'

He added: 'He disrespecting the ONLY FAMILY that has loved me without expecting anything in return. They are the ONLY ones that have been here consistently 4 me during this dark time.'

Odom has suffered family tragedy throughout his life including the sudden death of his seven-month-old son Jayden in 2006.

He and his then-girlfriend, Liza Morales, were also raising daughter Destiny, eight and son L.J, five.

In June 2011 he went to a funeral of a 24-year-old cousin who he believes was murdered in New York.

Just three days later, he was a passenger in an SUV when it collided with a motorcycle in Queens.

The motorcycle went out of control and collided with 15-year-old pedestrian, Awsaf Alvi Islam, who died as a result of his head injuries.

Odom told the LA Times in 2011: 'Death always seems to be around me. I've been burying people for a long time. When I had to bury my child, I probably didn't start grieving until a year and a half later.

'I think the effects of seeing [my cousin] die and then watching this kid die, it beat me down. I consider myself a little weak. I thought I was breaking down mentally. I'm doing a lot of reflecting.'
