'Megyn Kelly Today' made its debut on NBC Monday, after weeks of aggressive promotion from the network and new host, who appeared on a number of talk shows and made frequent appearances on 'Today' in the lead up in the premiere.

The host, wearing a pink pussy-bow blouse, welcomed her studio audience and spoke about her experience transitioning from the anchor of a primetime news program to her own early morning show.

Megyn got emotional at one point as she poignantly spoke about her late father, and how she searched for a sign from him when trying to decide if she should make the move to NBC.

That bit included a plug for her memoir 'Settle For More,' one of many times the books got some free press on the program.

Megyn was joined by her mother in the audience and also got a surprise appearance from husband Douglas Brunt, who just happened to be in  attendance with a bouquet of roses for his wife.

Megyn said that his stopping by the show was a big deal because he is such a private person, this despite the fact that he has also made multiple appearances on 'Today' over the past few months to help his wife promote her new shows.

That first first show, 'Megyn Kelly Tonight,' premiered back in June on NBC, and ended being a ratings failure for the network.

Megyn got  a warm welcome from the 'Today' team just before she went on air, with anchors Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie checking in with her from their perch at Rockefeller Center.

'I can't hear anything you are saying. But I am excited. And we're excited for the cast of 'Will & Grace' live right here,' said Megyn.

'Also, my family, maybe a little surprise there. And a behind-the-scenes tour with the 'Today' show anchors. And surprises for these guys, too.'

She then added: 'We don't know what's going to happen. It will get a little crazy. The debut premiere episode of 'Megyn Kelly Today.''

The show also got a shout-out earlier in the morning, with the host speaking to the 'Today' team in another crossover while outfitted in a white top along with the same slim-fitting black slacks and high heels she wore for the premiere episode.

'Coming up on 'Megyn Kelly Today,' she kicks off her new morning show with the entire cast of 'Will & Grace,' said Lauer.

'We introduce Megan with a few tips about working in morning TV.'

That is when Megyn threw in a hick-kick similar to the one performed by Sally O'Malley, the super-spirited 50-year-old dancer played by Molly Shannon on 'Saturday Night Live' who would often speak of her age and ability to kick.

'If my producers and I do our jobs you'll find out what you need to know today to get yourself through the day to have a laugh with us, a smile, sometimes a tear and maybe a little hope to start your day,' said Megyn early in the episode, promiignt o also provide 'some fun.'

She then spoke about her father, and his role in bringing the show to life.

'I'm from upstate NY. Syracuse and Albany,' said Megyn.

'My mom who is here, she is loving her moment, was a nurse who took care of veterans. My dad was a college professor. I am the youngest of 3 kids. We didn't have a lot of money, but we did have a lot of love and a ton of honesty. You could argue too much. I always tell the story of asking my mom, am I really smart? And she would say about average.

'In the summers, we used to go camping and my dad would play his guitar and would sing John Denver around the campfire. Cue the tears. One of our favorites was Denver's song Today - it's about not wasting a moment. Making each day count. I didn't really understand the message as a kid. But all too soon, I would come to understand .

'My dad died of a sudden heart attack when i was 15 and he was 45. It happened in our home, ten days before Christmas and it was the single most devastating event of my lifetime.

'As hard as losing my dad was, it has served as a constant reminder to me to follow the message of that song, "Today," which is don't waste time, make right now matter. Some of you may know i started my career as a lawyer, did that for 9 years. I put myself through Albany law school .

'But after 9 years, it wasn't fulfilling to me any longer . And then I went on to become a TV anchor. Which was good until it wasn't. I got married to Doug, my beautiful husband, who is here. We have three children, they're 4, 6 and as of today we have an 8 year old! And I was missing too much of it. I was missing too much of them. I was missing too much of Doug. I was missing too much of myself.

'I knew I needed to make a change and then came 2016. So much division and outrage. I wasn't happy. But I was scared to change. For years, I had dreamed of hosting a more uplifting show. But how? Where? What?

'As I often had since my dad died, I asked him for a sign of what I should do. But this time, no sign seemed to come. Then last summer, I was finishing up my memoir, called "Settle for More.'" In it I wrote that phrase for me, means more time with my family , more joy in my life. And I ended the book by quoting the song Today - "I'll be a rover. you'll know who I am by the songs that I sing."

'Still no sign from my dad. Not long after that I had my first meeting with NBC news, who - low and behold - offered me a job, hosting a program whose mission would be to deliver hope. And optimism. And Inspiration. And empowerment. And to have fun! A show called "Megyn Kelly Today."'

She later added: 'And it turns out, my dad was with me all along. I just had to listen. And to paraphrase Don McLean, "I'm listening still."'
