I’m Very Disappointed In The New Crop of Musicians – Ambolley

Ace High-life musician Gyedu-Blay Ambolley has expressed disappointment in the new crop of musicians for their failure to attend the funeral rites of the late Jewel Ackah. As a result, he has challenged the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) to organize events and implement agendas that will unify the older generation of musicians and the younger ones.

Ambolley’s call follows the noticeable absence of the young generation of artistes at the funeral of late high-life maestro Jewel Ackah held in Tema on Saturday, August 4,2018.

In attendance was former president Jerry John Rawlings, General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, former Organiser of the NDC, Yaw Boateng Gyan, Mr. Kofi Totobi-Quakyi, and a host of NDC officials. Members of GHAMRO and MUSIGA also present included, Rex Omar, Bessa Simons, A.B. Crenstsil, Ohuma Bosco, among others.

In an interview with the Graphic Showbiz, Ambolley urged MUSIGA to organise regular seminars and  interactive sessions for the various genre and groups in the industry to bring unity adding that the absence of unity is a contributing factor to why most new crop of musicians failed to attend late Jewel Ackah’s funeral rites.

“It does not sit right to have a funeral of such a big legend and not see the younger generation of musicians around.” expressed Ambolley

“Jewel Ackah for so many years, entertained people in their homes, cars, offices, markets and everywhere. So if that person who gave us that sort of entertainment is no more, the least we can do is to accord him our last respect by showing up at his funeral”, Ambolley added.

Continuing, Ambolley added “Ghana belongs to all of us and each one of us contribute in one way or the other. We don’t have to wait for one person to die before eulogizing him or her. We need to sit up as a people. If we do not come together and forge ahead as a team, we will remain divided.”
