Eight Nigerians have been arrested by the Eastern Naval Command, Tema for hijacking a fuel vessel in Nigeria. The vessel MV Mariam was carrying about 1500 tonnes of crude oil at the time the high seas robbers hijacked it. The robbers then turned and entered the territorial waters of Ghana but the tracking device fixed on the vessel gave them up.

According to the owner of the vessel, Mr Sunday, his offshore company alerted the Ghanaian Navy Command to be on the look out, leading to the arrest of the eight robbers and the vessel at Tema.
