Two weeks old baby abandoned along the Winneba/Agona Swedru road

Winneba, Jan. 12, GNA - A two-week old baby was on Tuesday afternoon found dumped in the bush by an unknown mother, near New Winneba Signboard community on the Winneba/Agona Swedru Highway.

The baby boy was rushed to Trauma and Specialist Hospital for immediate medical attention by Mr Kwame Turkson, Chairman of the Central Regional Association of Private Security Organization, and Mr Kobina Tawiah who found the baby.

Madam Naomi Kudjoe, Senior Nursing Officer of Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, told media that the two-week baby is healthy but he has been placed under intensive medical care for fear of infection as  a result of place where was found.

She said hospital would take good care of the baby until Social Welfare and Police complete their findings about why and how the mother dumped the innocent child in the bunker.

Madam Kudjoe said when the baby’s health is restored the hospital would contact Department of Social Welfare and Police for the collection of the child.

Mr Turkson, who took to the baby to hospital, told the Ghana News Agency that that he was on his way to Accra for medical check-up on reaching new Winneba Signboard area saw plenty vehicles packed with people attempting to have a look of the abandoned baby.

He said he also packed and rushed to the scene and saw the baby on the chest of Mr Kobina Tawiah and two other young boys standing by him and asked the story and was told the how the baby was found.

Mr Turkson said Mr Tawiah and other boys came from New Winneba Sign Board community and they heard the crying of the baby in the bush when they sough to collect gravels from roadside to fill pot holes on the road – their usual activity.

He said the case was reported to Winneba Police and Department of Social Welfare.

Mr Turkson appealed for assistance in catering for the baby since he could not do it alone.
